A beautiful piece of fish, cooked to perfection, with delicious, seasonal veg and sauce. That dish could hold its own in many a swanky London restaurant, and surpasses fish I have eaten in Bentley's Oyster Bar and Sheekey's to name but two. Linda - April 09 What a great place as a basis for touring the North Cotswolds, and how beautiful it is. It was a splendid stay. What makes it memorable for me is that the hosts and staff are all so pleasant, helpful and wanting you to have a good time as well! The food was magnificent, and the 12 who sat down to Sunday lunch enjoyed it thoroughly. We stayed in Room 2 - very tastefully decorated, and the bed, King size, was magnificently comfortable. Breakfast was a treat too - I have never seen blue shelled hens eggs before! We hope to come back! Great food, great company, fine wine - and I can't find enough superlatives to describe the toffee meringue! We had a marvellous evening, and a very comfortable night. We stayed in February 2009, lots of snow around but we had no problems finding the Horse and Groom. As the web site says, it is a Georgian building of honey coloured Cotswold stone with loads of character and period features plus the views over the surrounding landscape from its hill top setting. The frontage and ground floor bar present the original nature of the building; our bedroom was spectacular modern, but very much in keeping. All the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. In the restaurant area there was none of the "this is not my area". All the staff, including Tom the boss, cleared tables where necessary as well as looking after customers orders. The menu for the Saturday evening was impressive without being over ambitious; as a result our food was well prepared and extremely enjoyable. It was most encouraging to see the restaurant almost full on a cold February evening; clearly a good measure of reputation and success. Obviously Will and Tom have created an impressive team who share their enthusiasm and commitment. We happily recommend this Inn and will return, perhaps without the snow. Geoff Kerry – Feb 2009 Just a quick note to thank you for a wonderful weekend! This was our first trip to The Cotswolds and the staff at Horse and Groom made it perfect! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by name and treated like regulars. We really felt at home. The rooms were incredibly comfortable and surprisingly peaceful despite the crowd in the pub. Our breakfast on both mornings helped us start our day off right! The fresh squeezed juice was delicious. Dinner on the first night convinced us that we had no other option but to eat at Horse and Groom on our second night, too! Thank you so much for make our visit memorable. We can't wait to come back! Jennifer Kipphut – Feb 2009 I just got back to Florida from the UK, and the highlight of my visit was my stay at the Horse & Groom. My visit was absolutely perfect in everyway. I stayed in the room with a door to the gardens. I especially loved the food in your delightful restaurant. The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the dinners were first rate. I loved the fire in the fireplace, the smell of burning wood, and the wonderful, courteous staff who truly wanted everything to be perfect. I look forward to my next stay with you! Just a line to say how much Claire, Lucy and I enjoyed our lunch on Sunday. In fact I'm still dreaming about it.......! Thank you. It was terrific. It really was. My wife and I recently visited the Horse & Groom and were exceedingly pleased. In fact we had planned to stay only one or two nights, before moving on to other locations in the Cotswolds, however our two night stay, became four. We loved our comfortable room, and ended up eating in the pub every night, as the food was truly excellent. I'll also put in a good word for the staff, who were friendly, helpful and efficient. Oh yes, it would be terrible oversight not to mention the desert of a lifetime, Mrs. G's toffee meringue! Wow! Without a doubt, we would return happily. Four of us had a late lunch at the inn today. The food was great but what we particularly liked was the exceptionally friendly intelligent nice service from the barmaid (don’t know her name) with dark hair. A very enjoyable visit. I came in for lunch yesterday - and very good it was too! The food was fab - and the views were amazing. I haven't even been to the Horse and Groom yet but I have to say how impressed I was when I contacted them about my visit in September. I contacted the Greenstocks via this web site and advised them that on Friday 5th September 2008 there will be 14 hungry and thirsty bellringers that will more than likely want some food at lunch and will want to sample the real ale! When I e-mailed them to say that I didn't want to book a table as I didn't know who would want to eat or not it wasn't a problem at all, they even e-mailed me back within an hour of me sending them one! Having seen the rest of the comments on this page I am really looking forward to my visit albeit for about 2 hours! See you in September Will and Tom. An amazing evening - delicious food that appeared almost instantly, wicked pud in a bag and enjoyed with a bottle of wine on the train back to London. Thanks so much for looking after us and making sure we caught that train (just!). We will be back! Thank you so much for your help regarding our visit to Horse and Groom. We had a lovely time and took some of the best photos there. Tom looked after us perfectly. Mrs. G's Toffee Meringue..... Please tell Tom that it came to the top in our research after trying over 35 puddings! We enjoyed a truly excellent lunch at the H&G yesterday. That pork was brilliant - all four of us ordered it and it was a happy choice. In fact everything, not least your cheerful and accommodating staff, did you credit. To say that we had a wonderfully, spectacular, special time would be putting it mildly! We have told & will continue to tell all our friends (& anyone else who will listen) & family about you all & the time we had @ Horse & Groom….and how we were treated!!!!!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS TRIP SO SPECIAL…..only wish that our husbands had been with us during our time there….they think we are exaggerating about how you all treated us!!! Kathy said she did not expect to have a better meal the rest of her trip than she did at H&G - a REAL compliment coming from a seasoned world traveller! I can confirm her compliment. I had good food in Normandy and Paris, but none better than H&G. I certainly was not as well cared for as with you!! I wish you continued success and hope to return and bring my friends. Thank you all, so much, for providing such excellent food, a wonderful family venue and the most friendly and professional staff. Just spent 3 days in a cottage in Bourton and ate 3 nights at the Horse and Groom. Why go elsewhere? It was excellent in every respect and we thoroughly enjoyed the experiences. Top food complemented by top staff. You made an impression and expect an invasion from Yorkshire - you have been warned. Brill! Thanks. The rooms were wonderful, the food outstanding and your employees were very friendly. For those not familiar with the area, and without a car, there is much to do on foot! I spend a good deal of time in the Cotswolds and eat out quite a bit. It can be a bit hit and miss sometimes, but I honestly thought that your place was great. The food was fantastic, the staff were lovely and it's a really nice space, so congrats on all fronts.
